Stock Up Share / Holiday Fresh Produce Food Drive

There are only 3 more weeks left of the 2019 Season— November 20th is the last delivery.

End of the season means (1) no more local fresh produce 😢 (2) our local food pantries will not be getting their weekly fresh produce donations.

Don't fret. There is a solution!
Once again, Circle Brook Farm is offering an extra share to last you during the winter months —“stock up share.”  And I am also raising additional funds to purchase stock up shares for local food pantries. These shares will provide much needed produce for the holiday season. John at Circle Brook Farm understands that this final "stock up share" will not work for everyone, but he hopes that many of you will be able to participate by purchasing for themselves or donating money to go towards shares for the food pantries. Doing so will help the farm make use of the produce that is in storage and utilize what remains in the fields. The proceeds from the stock up share enable Circle Brook Farm to go into the winter months with sufficient money in the bank to pay the mortgage and other bills in January and February.
If you would like to purchase a stock up share for yourself or for the food pantries full details below.

Any questions, let me know.
Eat Well,
Melissa
PS. You do not have to be a member to purchase a stock up share!

STOCK UP SHARE $100, Delivery November 20th (Millburn and Orange)
The total weight will be 60+ lbs. Approximately a third of the share (20+ lbs.) will be winter squash- butternut, acorn, buttercup (kabocha), delicata, and sweet dumpling squash. The share will also include an assortment of root vegetables such as carrots, beets, parsnips, turnips, rutabaga and radishes. There will also be about 15 lbs. of potatoes and some onions and garlic in the share. The potatoes will include fingerlings, purple majesty (purple flesh) and an assortment of other varieties of potatoes and sweet potatoes. The onion crop did not keep well this season due to the wet conditions at harvest time and the farm has already distributed most of what remained. John has made an arrangement with a local organic farm to purchase some onions to include in the stock-up because he feels it is an important component to the share. This will be the only item in the share not grown at Circle Brook Farm. There will be no onions in the final share this year only in the stock up share.
The stock up share will also include green and red cabbage, and whatever greens there is still in the field at this time, such as arugula, broccoli raab or other mustard greens, kale, lettuce and spinach. It is possible that there will be broccoli and/or cauliflower and there will certainly be Brussels sprouts. The potatoes, onions and squash can be stored in a cool dry place such as an attached garage or enclosed porch, where they will not freeze. The root vegetables, greens and cabbage will best be stored in your refrigerator.

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE to stock up shares for our local food pantries.

Farm & Fork Society's food drives are always two-pronged:
  1. Purchase fresh produce for those in need; Essex County has the highest rate of food scarcity in the state with over 114,000 people.
  2. Help out our local farmer partners to finish out the season with enough money in the bank to pay the bills in the winter months.
No donation is too small.
Each stock up share is 60 pounds of produce
