Letter from John Krueger

Hi Folks,

We are expecting the possibility of our first frost early Tuesday morning. It will likely be a light one and will begin to warm up as we go through the week. Most of what is left in the field is hardy enough to survive and we will be covering a few tender crops to try and protect them. This will be the last week for eggplant, except for maybe a few small ones as an extra. We will have some lettuce in the shares again this week although the heads won’t be very large; everything grows rather slowly now with the short days and cool night. For those who did not get broccoli last week you should expect it this time around; otherwise there will be kale. We will be including a few decorative gourds and mini pumpkins in the share this week. The mini pumpkins are edible; the gourds are not!

Earlier I mentioned the possibility of a farm visit in 2 weeks. The way it looks now this may be difficult for me to pull off. I would prefer to have it just one day- Sunday 10/23 provided there is enough interest. Please RSVP to circlebrookfarm@gmail.com if you would like to attend. You can also let me know if you would like to come but can only make it on Saturday 10/22. Once I gauge the interest I will make a decision.

The share for this week will be: Lettuce, Rainbow carrots, peppers, eggplant, choice of arugula or tatsoi, garlic, white potatoes, choice of spinach or chard, sweet dumpling and carnival squash, choice of dill or cilantro and ornamental gourds and mini-pumpkins.

Enjoy!
