Letter from John Krueger (Week 2)

Hi Folks,

Just got in from the field; trying to get some winter squash planted ahead of the next round of rain. I’m late getting this update out so I will make it brief. The peas are coming in heavy and the later planted varieties are flowering profusely, so we should have peas for another month. Zucchini has started to produce. We have lots of beautiful lettuce and loads of spinach too. The root vegetable of the week is the Hakurei salad turnip - a sweet delight that is meant for eating raw (hence the name) but can be cooked as well. It also has quite beautiful tops which can be added to salads or braised. Beets begin next week.

The share for this week will be: Lettuce, spinach, salad turnips, scallions, summer squash, peas, and choice of an herb- cilantro or dill. Premium shares will also receive bok choy and choice of kale or Swiss chard.

Enjoy!
